Solid Start But Room For Improvement

Posted: 24th January 2012

After a nice Christmas break I flew out to Dubai for some serious practice.

The weather was great and it was nice to get back on to the course. I played ‘friendly’ round with my coach Graham Walker against Joost Luiten and my caddie Chris Rice. The less said about the result the better.

We then flew from Dubai to South Africa for my first tournament of 2012, The Volvo Golf Champions.

The Links at Fancourt was in fantastic condition and the wind didn’t really get up on the first two day. After a 69 and a 72 I was -5 after two rounds which left me in a good position.

The weather really turned on the Saturday which made scoring... MORE »

Consistency slowly appearing...

Consistency slowly appearing…

Wentworth is always a busy week…with being English and a lot of friends and family coming to watch and also, being our flagship tournament, a good chance to catch up with sponsors and possibly meet prospective new ones.  So I was very aware that I had to plan my time to make sure I was ready to play come Thursday.  And I managed to do that fairly well.  I was in control of my ball teeing off Thursday morning, but unfortunately it dissipated a little as the week went on but still very pleased with the result. Shooting scores of 70 68 74 71, I finished in a tie for 7th, more down to my short game and... MORE »

Win Number 2

Posted: 24th May 2011

I arrived in Spain for the Open de Andalucia being careful not to do too much, with my injury from the week before.  I felt the work I had done in Portugal the 2 weeks prior really paid off and had more control of the golf ball than I think I’d ever had.  I was excited for the week ahead, getting off to a great start being -5 thru 12 holes but not quite managing to finish it off, dropping a couple in the last 6.  From then on, I lost my rhythm a little bit and just wasn’t getting the ball in the hole well enough, resulting in a disappointing 51st position.

My next tournament was in Morocco, and as... MORE »

The Desert Swing

Posted: 24th March 2011

The Desert Swing started for me out in Joburg as more of a warm up for the events starting in Abu Dhabi.  And as I expected, I was very rusty. I had hit a few balls the week before at home, but the Tuesday of Joburg was the first time I had hit any balls off grass since the Dubai World Championship, nearly 8 weeks before!  And so that week was spent mainly finding my rhythm and timing and getting some feel back around the greens.  I did unfortunately miss the cut but still played reasonably well, just a little sloppy around the greens at times.

And so on to Dubai for a weekend of practice, which to be honest, was... MORE »

A new year, A new start.

Posted: 13th January 2011

The back end of last season was a little frustrating, managing only 23rd as my best finish for the last eight events of the year. The funny thing was, I actually started to play better and better tee to green from the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship onwards, but just not posting the scores to match.

Probably an element of trying too hard combined with a little lack of confidence with the putter led me to me never quite finishing off a tournament when I got up there (Castello Masters).

But even so, 2010 was a good year for me…’progressive’ as I’ve told a lot of people when asked how I felt it had gone. Apart from the win and two Top 5’s,... MORE »
